Checked and free vowels

Checked vowels usually have to be followed by a consonant. And they don't show up at the end of words.

/ɪ/ as in /ˈpɪt/

/ɛ/ as in /ˈpɛt/

/æ/ as in /ˈpæt/

/ʊ/ as in /ˈpʊt/

/ʌ/ as in /ˈpʌt/

In these demonstrations of pronunciation, they show us an open pronunciation, but when they use them they always limit them, practically they cut them, and that is precisely what you have to observe.

The open vowels of English are:

/iː/ as in /ˈbiː/

/uː/ as in /ˈbuː/

/ɑː/ as in /ˈbrɑː/

/ɚ/ as in /ˈbɚ/

/eɪ/ as in /ˈbeɪ/

/oʊ/ as in /ˈtoʊ/

/aɪ/ as in /ˈbaɪ/
